Yesterday's matchday

European Championship in Dortmund

Martin Schindler has written German darts history – the European title goes to Ross Smith. “The Wall” was the first German to reach the singles final of a PDC major. There Smith came through 11:8 and ended Schindler's dream of the title in front of a home crowd. Before that, the German had booked his place in the final with clear wins over Jonny Clayton and Krzysztof Ratajski.

In the final, the two were close on the Average: Smith finished on 92.92 points, Schindler on 91.49. The Englishman also threw ten 180s and won the battle for the trophy. You can read how the final unfolded in our detailed match report on the European Championship final.

  • Final: Ross Smith – Martin Schindler 11:8
  • Semi-final: Ross Smith – Gerwyn Price 11:7
  • Semi-final: Martin Schindler – Krzysztof Ratajski 11:6
  • Quarter-final: Ross Smith – Luke Woodhouse 10:6
  • Quarter-final: Gerwyn Price – Stephen Bunting 10:3
  • Quarter-final: Martin Schindler – Jonny Clayton 10:1
  • Quarter-final: Krzysztof Ratajski – Luke Littler 10:6

Schindler's quarter-final against Jonny Clayton was particularly impressive. In the 10:1 win he gave the Welshman barely a chance. With an Average of 103.16 points and a 167 checkout, the German showed what was possible on the day. In the semi-final, Schindler also left Ratajski well behind and set up the final against Smith.

Ross Smith impressed above all against Luke Woodhouse with a high scoring average. Reaching the semi-final, he threw an Average of 107.00 points. Against Gerwyn Price a lower average than his opponent's was then enough for the win: Smith made 92.55 points, Price 93.69. The Welshman had beaten Stephen Bunting comfortably beforehand, but had to leave the final spot to Smith.

For Luke Littler, on the other hand, it was over in the quarter-final. Krzysztof Ratajski knocked the title contender out of the tournament and booked the tie with Schindler. On the Doubles the Pole took 55.56 per cent of his chances, Littler 37.5 per cent.
