It is the 25th edition of a tournament that was first held in 2003 and has been played in Minehead since 2014 – with the exception of the 2021 edition in Milton Keynes. Among fans the event is nicknamed the “FA Cup of Darts”, because it is played without seedings and the top players can meet at any stage. A total of 160 players take part. All 128 holders of a PDC Tour Card are automatically entered, joined by eight qualifiers each from the Challenge Tour and the Development Tour as well as 16 places for amateurs from various qualifying events. The leading players in the world ranking enter in later rounds according to their position: numbers 97 to 128 start in round 1, numbers 65 to 96 in round 2, numbers 33 to 64 in round 3 and the top 32 in round 4. Up to and including the last 16, matches are played in parallel on eight stages; from the quarter-finals onwards only one board is used. Total prize money remains £750,000, as in the previous year. The champion receives £120,000 and the runner-up £60,000; even reaching the last 128 is rewarded with £1,250. The tournament is sponsored by Ladbrokes. The reigning champion is Luke Littler, who won the 2026 final 11-7 against James Wade and so defended his title from the year before. The record winner of the UK Open is Phil Taylor with five titles; he was also the tournament's first champion in 2003.
