Darts prediction game explained

How the prediction game works, how points are earned and how you compete against friends

At the World Championship, during the Matchplay, in the Premier League: the DartCloud prediction game turns every pro tournament into a contest with friends and the community. This guide explains how it works, how points are awarded and what strategy to use.

To the prediction game

How it works

  1. Open an active prediction game (one per pro tournament, for example for the World Championship)
  2. For each match, predict the winner and the result in Legs or Sets, up to the prediction deadline before the match starts
  3. After the match the points are calculated automatically
  4. Overall ranking and a ranking among the players you follow

Points

There are points for the correct winner and more points for the exact result (default: one point for the winner, three for the exact result; the organiser can adjust the values for each prediction game). Special scoring is listed in the rules of each prediction game. Late predictions after the deadline do not count. You will find the exact points table in the respective prediction game and in the prediction game terms.

Strategy

Playing with friends

Every prediction game has a ranking of all participants; if you play with friends and club mates, that's where you compare places. Clubs like to use the prediction game as a club competition during the World Championship.

Example: a tournament day

On the first day of the World Matchplay there are four matches on the schedule. Before the first match you predict all four with winner and result. Two favourites win, one of them with the predicted result, and an outsider causes an upset. You collect points for three correct winners, including the higher value once for the exact result; the outsider doesn't cost you any points, you simply don't get any. If you predict every match of the tournament, you have the best chances in the end, because no match brings minus points.

Common questions

Predictions can be changed as often as you like up to the deadline; after that they're fixed. If a match is cancelled or a player is replaced, the prediction game terms govern the scoring. Every prediction game page shows the rules for that tournament, the prizes, if there are any, and the standings of all participants.

For clubs and groups of friends, the prediction game is an easy way to follow the big tournaments together: everyone predicts, the ranking gets discussed at the clubhouse, and at the end the winner buys a round or takes home a travelling trophy. Organisers don't have to set anything up; the prediction game runs on DartCloud for every pro tournament.
